Needed Action for Community Care & Development (NACC)
NACC, formerly called Namwera AIDS Coordinating Committee (NACC), is a registered non-profit making local NGO. It was founded in 1996 has a community response to HIV and AIDS pandemic in Namwera. By then, HIV prevalence rate was 17% (Mangochi District Hospital records). Over the years, NACC expanded its scope of work and geographical coverage to Mangochi, Machinga, Zomba and Mulanje districts in Southern Malawi.
NACC envisions a healthy, resilient and prosperous community. To achieve this, NACC works with vulnerable communities to develop household resilience in addressing developmental issues in Malawi focusing on child development, health, education, sustainable livelihood, protection and safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults and environmental restoration. We stay in the community where we serve, this helps NACC to understand the community it serve.
NACC’s Strategic Objectives:
improved caregiving environment for optimal child development;
equitable access to quality health care services in rural areas;
improved learning environment to enhance transition, persistence and pass rate among girls and boys;
improved sustainable livelihood;
improved dignity of women, girls and children;
resilience to climate change through environmental restoration.
Social and Community Mobilization
NACC works to raise awareness and act on issues affecting women, girls and children.
Infrastructure development
NACC is improving school and early childhood development infrastructure such as girls’ hostels, classroom blocks, libraries, laboratories, teachers
house, and wash rooms for girls.

Human Centered Design (HCD) Approach
Through this approach problems are identified and defined; solutions are co-created in collaboration
with the communities.
Comprehensive Community Scorecard
To enhance transparency and accountability,
NACC uses participatory monitoring and social accountability tools. This builds trust, promotes
ownership and sustainability.
Capacity building
NACC facilitates the establishment of Community
Based Organizations, Youth NGOs, People Living with
HIV Support Groups (PLHIV), and Child Protection Committees.
Education sponsorship
NACC supports secondary school and university
students in need. This reduces school dropout rate
and promote retention rate among adolescent girls
and boys.
